Preliminary Project - Target Audience

Target Audience

The target audience for my sixth form/college magazine is for students roughly aged from 15 to 19. 15 year olds would be coming up to the stage in their life where they have to choose sixth form, college or an apprenticeship, so useful advice about all three would appeal to them. Then, for 19 year olds who have had to stay at the education of their choice would want some tips and advice on universities, alternatives to university and what sort of full-time employment they could go for with their qualifications.

What might students worry about?
  • Exam pressures
  • Revising effectively
  • University
  • The future e.g. employment
  • What to wear to sixth for/fashion advice
  • Staying social/relationships
  • Driving lessons
  • Finding part-time work outside of education
  • Whether or not they have picked the right course for them
  • Time management
  • UCAS

What might students care about?
  • Succeeding/doing well
  • Money
  • Friends
  • Staying healthy both mentally and physically
  • Stress management/relaxation

What might students enjoy?
  • Socialising
  • Music
  • Video/computer games
  • Sport e.g. football
  • Food
  • Films & TV
  • Internet

What would students want to know about?
  • What to do after sixth form/college
  • Alternatives to university e.g. full time employment
  • Apprenticeships
  • Employment options
  • Current affairs
  • Helpful tips and advice e.g. stress management tips, revision tips, advice on drugs and alcohol
  • Driving
  • Relationship advice
  • Apps which can help to revise for phones
  • Summer schools - what more can they do to get good grades?

With these different categories in mind, I'd have to include a majority of them in order to appeal to my target audience's age, gender and interests.  This would not only bring in a bigger audience but help the readers and appeal to a large range of students.
