G321 - Final Idea

Indie/Alternative Magazine
  • Age range: 16-25
  • 50/50 male and female target audience
  • Demographic ABC1, perhaps C2
  • Psychographic explorer and reformer
  • Quite a simple, basic layout with minimal colours. No bold colours as it's not going to be an extremely loud magazine. Something easy on the eyes when the reader is looking at and through it.
  • Limited colours to keep with the simple theme. Black and white photos, along with colour. Pastel colours, grunge-y colours for backgrounds.
  • Classy, formal language used throughout.
  • There will predominantly be images as I have found that, from doing market research, magazine readers prefer less text and more pictures. There will still be text, but there won't be as much as other magazines.
  • Genres of music range from indie rock, alternative rock, alternative pop, indie pop, DJ indie, DJ alternative, folk influences in indie and so on.
  • Examples of existing artists which would feature in this sort of magazine would follow as: The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, One Night Only, Nirvana, Florence and the Machine, Tom Odell, George Ezra, Ella Henderson etc.

Readership Profile
Poppy is a Sixth Form student who enjoys listening to all different kinds of music. She is currently doing her A-Levels and is studying a wide variety of subjects; A-Level Music, Media Studies and Art, to help fulfill her desires of becoming a music magazine editor.
In her free time, she goes to a lot of local and large scale gigs, ranging from artists like Arctic Monkeys, We The Ocean and One Night Only. Poppy grew up listening to her Father's records, artists like the Rolling Stones, Nirvana and The Beatles. It is these musical influences which made her pick up the guitar and learn to play. Now she's in a band of her own with her two best friends.
Poppy is an adventurous introvert; she likes to be out and about with her friends, yet she enjoys time alone to read her favourite magazines about new and upcoming music, local gigs and album releases.
Poppy works part-time in her local H&M and spends money on accessories for her guitar, clothing, CDs, posters and the occasional hair dye to personalise her look. She currently owns a white iPhone 6 along with a HP laptop. She drives a hand-me-down Volkswagen Polo - a vehicle which also uses up a slice of her income. Poppy doesn't have a favourite clothing brand, but cannot leave her house without her trusty VANS on her feet. Poppy likes to spend a lot of time with her friends and her boyfriend Duncan, who has a similar music taste to her.
My magazine will be aimed at people like Poppy.
